London Hydro Inc. purchased a perfect solution from ndb Technologie Inc. to increase and maintain reliability of its electric networks. The company purchased the ULD-40, an ultrasonic detector for air-insulated sectionalizing enclosures (SEs) maintenance. Those pieces of equipment are critical pieces of equipment on London Hydro’s distribution system which can have a large impact on reliability. The ULD-40 detects with accuracy the presence of an ultrasound signal by transforming its pressure into an audible signal. An acoustic vibration is further converted into electric signals. It is a perfect instrument to test those pieces of equipment and give a reliable power to its customers.

In fact, London Hydro Inc. put in place a preventive maintenance program to maintain the excellent quality offered. This program shows that the company is very proactive and interested by customer’s satisfaction.

The ULD-40 is used to detect and locate any type of defect generating ultrasounds in the air, like Corona effects and arcing that are sometimes found on overhead power installations. Traditional use of infrared cameras reveals hot spots that the naked eye otherwise misses. Corona, arcing and tracking do not always generate significant increases in temperature. It is why the ULD-40 is so useful. Simple and quick to operate, the ULD is an ideal tool for any maintenance and inspection program.
